The provider renewal process is based on Chapter 18 of the Wyoming EMS Rules.
Wyoming EMS licenses are valid for 2 years, with the current expiration date set to December 31 of each year. Each year’s renewal application period starts on October 1 and runs through December 31.
The Renewal Application will be available to providers only during the renewal application period.
To be eligible for renewal, a licensee at all levels must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from a national organization approved by the Division, and if renewing as an IEMT or Paramedic,
valid and current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from a national organization approved by the Division. These certifications must be maintained throughout the license period.
The Wyoming OEMS requires continuing medical education/continuing education units (CME/CEU) hours for renewal. CME/CEU is defined as live instruction or distributed continuing medical education (DCME), better known as virtual training, approved by the OEMS or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). A licensee may receive credit for the completion of DCME(Virtual training) for no more than half of the total required hours of the CME/CEU coursework specific to the licensee’s level of licensure.
CME/CEU Accreditation:
CME/CEU Accreditation is applied to any Live-in person course or DCME (Virtual) course that meets the following requirements.
- CME/CEU Course is provided by the OEMS, or at a national, state, or regional conference that has been pre-approved by the OEMS.
- The CME/CEU Course is a DCME(Virtual) course and has been accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE)
- The CME/CEU Course is a live and in-person lecture-style instruction and is provided by a qualified instructor in the subject matter, as part of the organization’s regular training program or schedule, and is sponsored by a licensed Ambulance / EMS Agency, authorized fire service, approved EMS Educational program, or hospital.
CME/CEU Documentation is completed through uploading into the Education section of OWLS.
Required supporting documents to validate CME/CEUs not accredited through the OEMS:
- A certificate of completion, which includes the topic of instruction, date of completion, location where instruction occurred, time of instruction, the name and signature of the instructor or teacher, and CME/CEU credit hours awarded
- Attendance Rosters of coursework, which include the topic of instruction, date of completion, location where instruction occurred, time of instruction, the name and signature of the instructor or teacher, and CME/CEU credit hours awarded.
- Official Transcripts from a college or university that, at a minimum, show the topic of instruction, date of completion, and CME/CEU credit hours awarded.
The five categories of CME that are required are:
• Airway Management – education related to basic and advanced airway management, respiratory
emergencies, and oxygenation.
• Pediatrics – education related to the assessment, care, and treatment of patients under 18 years of age.
• Trauma – education related to the assessment, care, and treatment of a patient who suffered a traumatic
injury.
• Medical – education related to the assessment, care, and treatment of a patient who is experiencing a
medical emergency.
• Elective – education related to operation topics, including but not limited to ambulance safety/operation,
documentation, ICS, MCI, lifting and moving patients, scene safety, crew resource management, and
medical research.
Hours required by level:
EMR – 2 Airway Management, 2 Pediatric, 5 Trauma, 5 Medical, 6 Electives. Total 20 Hours.
EMT – 6 Airway Management, 6 Pediatric, 10 Trauma, 10 Medical, 10 Electives. Total 42
AEMT – 8 Airway Management, 8 Pediatric, 12 Trauma, 12 Medical, 14 Electives. Total 54
IEMT – 6 Airway Management, 6 Pediatric, 16 Trauma, 16 Medical, 16 Elective. Total 60 NOTE: IEMT May use NREMT AEMT Certification and 10 Hours of CEU
Paramedic – 6 Airway Management, 6 Pediatric, 16 Trauma, 16 Medical, 16 Elective. Total 60
