Emergency Medical Responder “EMR” Programs
If you are licensed at the EMT level or higher you may request approval from the OEMS to conduct an EMR course.
Emergency Medical Technician Programs
If you are certified at the EMT level or higher and are an approved Initial Course Coordinator you can request approval to deliver an EMT course. To do so, please request in OWLS.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Programs
If you are certified at the AEMT level or higher and are an approved Initial Course Coordinator you can request approval to deliver an EMT course. To do so, please request in OWLS.
Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician Programs
If you are certified at the paramedic level or higher and are an approved Initial Course Coordinator you can request approval to deliver an EMT course. To do so, please request in OWLS.
Initial Training Programs Endorsed by the EMS Office
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care for critical patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher-level personnel at the scene and during transport.
Minimum recommended hours: 48 hours; clinical time recommended but not required.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This course was developed by the Department of Transportation. The EMT National Standard Curriculum prepares individuals to work for first response groups or ambulance services. The EMT program has added enhancements developed by the State of Wyoming EMS Office.
Minimum recommended hours: 150 hours, including clinical time.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.
Minimum recommended hours: 200 hours, including clinical time.
Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (IEMT)
The purpose of the IEMT initial course is to educate pre-hospital care providers, provide EMS service at the IEMT level, and enhance the safety and quality of healthcare delivery in the prehospital hospital environment.
Minimum recommended hours: 150 hours, including clinical time.
Current IEMT Course Objectives
Paramedic
The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found in an ambulance.
Minimum recommended hours as established by the Committee on Accreditation for EMS Professions (CoAEMSP) Standards and Guidelines (www.coaemsp.org).
Instructor Development Course
This 40-hour program is a prerequisite for anyone interested in serving as a primary instructor or coordinator for EMT or higher classes in Wyoming.
