Motor vehicle wrecks are one of the leading causes of adolescent injury and death. The Youth and Young Adult Health Program and the Wyoming Injury and Violence Prevention Program have partnered with the University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center to offer a free, online parent-teen driving agreement to parents of new drivers in Wyoming, called Checkpoints.
Parent-teen driver agreements increase the likelihood that new teen drivers will engage in safer driving practices. These agreements work best if a parent and their teen create the agreement together, and the parent enforces the consequences if a teen driver doesn’t abide by the rules. These agreements can be updated every six months to allow more freedom as teens gain experience driving and demonstrate that they are safe drivers.
Visit the Checkpoints website to learn more about safe and unsafe teen driving behaviors, and to create a free, online agreement. You can download the flyer below to share information about this resource.
