2026-2030 MCH Priorities and Measures
The following priorities will guide MCH work from 2026 to 2030. We consider these priorities our response to the needs assessment findings. We believe they also invite collaboration and opportunities to work with others to address them.
- Lower preventable death and disease in MCH populations
- Promote safe and supportive environments for MCH populations
- Promote individual and family self-advocacy
- Promote family thriving and resiliency
- Promote healthy growth and development
- Improve access to quality systems of care
- Improve family and community engagement
In addition to priorities, we select national performance measures (NPMs) to help us measure our work, track progress, and guide strategies to affect these priorities. Our selected NPMs include:
- Postpartum visits (women/maternal)
- Safe sleep (perinatal/infant)
- Medical home (children and youth with special healthcare needs)
- Food sufficiency (children)
- Mental health treatment (adolescents)
What is the Title V MCH Block Grant?
Title V of the Social Security Act of 1935 established the MCH Services Block Grant. It is designed to assist states in their efforts to improve the health of mothers, children, and families. In Wyoming, the Title V MCH Block Grant is administered through the MCH Unit, within the Wyoming Department of Health. It supports programs that help mothers give birth to healthy babies and promotes access to medical care for children and youth, including those with special health care needs, as they grow and develop.
Every five years, the MCH Unit is required to perform a statewide needs assessment to determine health priorities for women, infants, and children in Wyoming.
