In order to streamline the secure transmission of public health data and help hospitals and private providers meet Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs (now known as the Promoting Interoperability Programs), the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit has made multiple electronic systems available for reporting.
Syndromic Surveillance
The Wyoming Department of Health uses Health Monitoring Systems (HMS) EpiCenter for all syndromic surveillance activities. The Department requires Wyoming hospitals to contract with HMS for submission of syndromic surveillance data.

Electronic Laboratory Reporting
Wyoming does have the capability to accept electronic laboratory reports. To make these connections, we follow the process outlined by the Health Level Seven (HL7) Version 2.5.1 Implementation Guide: Electronic Laboratory Reporting to Public Health, Release 1 (US Realm).
Wyoming also accepts CSV reporting for COVID-19 through sFTP.
If you are interested in onboarding to report labs electronically. Please complete this Initial Intake Form. The form must be completed in its entirety before the onboarding process can proceed. Once the form is completed, someone from our third-party vendor, Inductive Health, will reach out to you with next steps. If you have further questions, please contact Cori Herzberger.
Electronic Case Reporting
Wyoming does accept electronic case reports. The state of Wyoming uses the HL7 electronic initial case report (eICR) standards (R1.1 and R3) for electronic case reporting (eCR) and to support the new CMS Promoting Interoperability regulations for eCR. It is these standards that we will use to eventually eliminate manual reporting requirements. For more information, visit eCR Now: COVID-19 Electronic Case Reporting for Healthcare Providers and cdc.gov/ecr. To initiate the onboarding process, please contact Cori Herzberger.
