Hepatitis A virus (HAV) can cause infection in the liver. It is a contagious virus and may be transmitted by consuming contaminated food or water or from contact with another infected person. Most adults infected with Hepatitis A have symptoms, however many children show no signs of illness.Hepatitis A can be prevented by getting a vaccination.
