What is the Wyoming PNA survey?
The Prevention Needs Assessment Survey (PNA) is a survey given to 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students in Wyoming schools in every other school year. The survey is anonymous. The survey asks questions about substance use, mental health, basic demographics, and other behaviors, perceptions, and experiences related to mental health and substance use among youth.
The questions your child gets depend on the grade they are in. Sixth and eighth graders do not get the same question as older students. The survey is taken during school and takes about 45 minutes.
You can see the survey at pnasurvey.org or from your child’s school.
PNA is confidential.
All survey responses are anonymous and confidential. We do not collect individual information that could identify your child or your family. Results are groups together and reported at a local or state levels. Results are shared with your local school district, the health department, and researchers.
PNA is voluntary.
Participation in this survey is voluntary. Your child may stop the survey at any time, or skip questions if they choose. There is no penalty for not participating.
PNA is important.
The PNA survey has provided information for things impacting Wyoming youth for over 20 years. The information helps parents know what to talk about with their kids, like vaping. It also helps teachers, schools, public health, and community leaders understand Wyoming students and the challenges they face.
PNA is local.
The PNA survey is used by local prevention teams, community leaders, and schools to build effective programs and put resources where they are most needed.
