September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to spread messages of strength, dignity, hope, and purpose while increasing awareness of suicide and the resources available to prevent it.
As part of these efforts, the Wyoming Injury and Violence Prevention has partnered with the Governor’s Office to request that local communities highlight events honoring Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and their major local-level accomplishments in suicide prevention efforts over the last year. The dedicated individuals and organizations behind these events continue to move suicide prevention forward in Wyoming.
For more details on many of the September events mentioned, visit the Wyoming Suicide Prevention Training and Events Calendar.
While you’re here, feel free to review other portions of the Wyoming Injury and Violence Prevention Program site to learn more about suicide prevention resources.
Individual submissions from a wide range of organizations in the private and public sectors were copied as directly as possible with some edits made for clarity. If you would like additional efforts in your county to be highlighted below, please fill out this Google Form. This page will be updated periodically throughout the month.

Wellness in the WEST, https://www.uwyo.edu/west/index.html — We are planning upcoming Jed Foundation Suicide prevention trainings for faculty and staff of the University of Wyoming this fall.
Community Accomplishments
Ivinson Memorial Hospital, https://www.ivinsonhospital.org/suicide-prevention-training-qpr, Training as many gatekeepers as possible, including partnering with the University of Wyoming and WyoTech to train staff and students. Over the last year, we have trained over 200 new gatekeepers.
AFSP, University of Wyoming, dbranso2@uwyo.edu–The AFSP Walk Out of the Darkness for Suicide Prevention. I am on the planning committee and have helped fundraise and set up for the past two years. Additionally, fellow graduate students from the UWPC and Dr. Anne Stevens were able to give drop-in grief counseling following a death by suicide. Not that many people showed up, but it felt good to be available and act quickly in a time of need.
Albany County Prevention, https://copssa.org/suicide-prevention-trainings/, Albany County was one of the first counties in Wyoming to bring CALM, or Counseling on Access to Lethal Means trainings to the state. CALM discusses the importance of firearm and medication safe storage during a mental health crisis. The training is Wyoming friendly and stresses the importance of safe storage “for now” and not forever. Albany County also recently hosted a CONNECT suicide postvention training. Connect is designed to respond to a suicide or tragic death in your community with resources for the family. The connect team is deployed and will have a uniform response to all tragic death. Quality postvention practices help prevent future suicides.
Wellness in the WEST, https://www.uwyo.edu/west/index.html — We partnered with Half Acre to provide a Mental Health First Aid incentive for all UW employees this past year. Employees who completed the MHFA training receive a monthly discount on their membership to Half Acre for one year after the training. We also just completed a suicide prevention training for all first-time, full-time freshmen at Saddle Up. The training was created by the Jed Foundation and delivered by a number of our mental health practitioners to all the freshmen and Poke Pack Leaders, in small groups, during the week of Saddle Up. Practitioners met with the Jed Foundation over the summer to receive facilitation training, and as part of this prework, our Resident Assistants from the residence halls also received the Jed Foundation’s training.
Cathedral Home, https://www.cathedralhome.org/coaches— In May 2025, Cathedral Home spearheaded and facilitated a new suicide prevention training program titled “Coaches Who Care.” Cathedral Home is a Laramie-based nonprofit providing mental health services for youth & families statewide since 1910. The training program was led by members of the Cathedral Home clinical counseling team and offered free of charge to community members who have significant influence in the lives of Albany County youth, such as athletic coaches and club leaders. Attendees learned to recognize warning signs of suicide, how to have tough conversations with youth about suicide and mental health, and how to respond in scenarios where a youth might be struggling. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and facilitate an open dialogue during training sessions. Cathedral Home is incredibly passionate about this program and plans to continue offering Coaches Who Care trainings annually.

Community Accomplishments
Lincoln County Connects Mental Wellness Platform, s4kconnects.com—
As part of the Family Resource Center in Lincoln County, we have developed a mental wellness platform—our community’s all-in-one wellness and HR solution. We believe real healing and hope come from access to a trusted community that steps in when others can’t.
S4K Connects keeps communities connected through real-time notifications, announcements, and an integrated events calendar. The platform provides access to mental health workshops, wellness resources, leadership development, and local support services. With a customizable onboarding section, communities can upload their own materials or use built-in S4K content to foster growth and engagement.
Designed to strengthen workplace culture, enhance well-being, and build resilience, S4K Connects also partners with WY-211 to offer a comprehensive resource tool—linking users to support at every level, from state and county services to grassroots efforts like a neighbor’s suicide awareness walk.
What we have created for Lincoln County is easily duplicated for other counties and we are in the process of talking to those interested in setting this sort of connection platform up for their communities.
Lincoln County Prevention ATODS Coalition has integrated suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention across the county with social media campaigns, PROSPER, The JAE Foundation, and a workplace wellness toolkit for local industries. Together with their partners, Lincoln County has reduced suicides county-wide by 60% serving as a model for coalition-led prevention.

MINING PROJECT:
The Uinta County Suicide Prevention Task Force has partnered with Lincoln County Prevention and Jon Conrad, Director of Governmental Affairs for Tata Chemicals Soda Ash Partners, LLC, who is also a Uinta County Suicide Prevention Task Force Board member, to promote suicide prevention and awareness as well as resources to our local miners.
Suicide has greatly impacted the local mining community and the middle-aged man demographic in Uinta County. There are over 500 miners who reside in Uinta County and we want to promote a region wide effort to help destigmatize seeking help for mental health as well as provide education and resources for those in the mining industry.
Jon Conrad has developed a powerful presentation called “Mining’s Deadliest Secret”: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in Mining” that he has shared with all of the Vice Presidents of the mines in our region. To date, Jon has shared his presentation with 400 surface and underground mining employees at American Soda, LLC (Formerly Solvay) Mine and 540 surface and underground employees at Tata Chemicals Soda Ash Partners Mine. He was also the keynote speaker at the Essential Minerals Association – North America’s 2025 Annual Conference in Monterey, California where he presented to 130 mining executives from across the US and Great Britain. Jon has also presented to the Evanston City Council and at an Evanston Chamber Lunch & Learn event. His impactful presentation has been well received by the over 1,000 people he has presented to, and allowed us to share important suicide prevention and awareness education and resources as well as helping to get the conversation started about reducing the stigma of seeking mental health help.
Part of the mining project is the development of media ads that are targeted towards miners/heavy industry workers as well as printed posters with resources on how to seek help that can be hung up in common areas, changing rooms, restrooms, etc. inside the mines. Wallet cards with the new 988 crisis line as well as the crisis text line will also be readily available and accessible to miners as well. We hope to continue to share Jon’s presentation throughout the county and continue to grow this project.
MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER CONTRACT PROJECT:
With the help of the Never Enough Suicide Prevention Awareness Softball Tournament fundraiser and generous donations from multiple sources, the Uinta County Suicide Prevention Task Force is working with High Country Behavioral Health and Pioneer Counseling Services to provide financial assistance to community members in need of mental health services with a tie to suicide. After a sliding fee schedule is applied, funding from the Task Force will be used to help pay for the remainder of the bill. We are also providing funding to help with transportation costs associated with getting to and from appointments. Community members can contact either provider for more details. Since 2021, the Uinta County Suicide Prevention Task Force has provided nearly $20,000, which has helped 248 clients with over 944 mental health services, as well as taxi passes for appointments.
