Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Melanoma has the highest risk for mortality and is one of the most common cancers among young adults. A substantial percentage of lifetime sun exposure occurs before the age of 20 and because ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure during childhood and adolescence plays an important role in the development of skin cancer, it is especially important to establish sun safety behaviors in children to help prevent sun damage before it starts. Creating a healthy and consistent foundation of sun-safe practices will follow a child throughout their lifetime.
The Wyoming Sun Safety Toolkit is a guide that was developed by the Wyoming Cancer Program (WCP) in partnership with the Wyoming School Nurse Association, State School Nurse, and the
Wyoming Cancer Coalition’s Prevention Workgroup.
Below are sun safety tools schools can use to promote and encourage sun safe practices.
