Overview
The State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) collects detailed information on unintentional and undetermined intent drug overdose deaths in Wyoming. The data is primarily abstracted from death certificates, coroner reports, and toxicology results. After being de-identified, the information is entered into a web-based CDC platform with the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS).
Wyoming began collecting data for SUDORS in 2024 as part of WDH’s ongoing efforts to address the opioid epidemic. The goal is to enhance drug overdose surveillance, better understand the circumstances surrounding overdose deaths, and inform prevention strategies.
Case Criteria
SUDORS includes deaths that meet all of the following criteria:
- The death occurred in Wyoming (in 2024 or later).
- The manner of death is unintentional or undetermined intent.
- The death was caused by an acute drug overdose/poisoning.
Data
When the data sources are combined, SUDORS can capture over 600 data elements for analyses.

Reports and Tools
Wyoming is currently in the early stages of SUDORS data collection. Public-facing data products, such as annual reports and dashboards, are in development but not yet available.
In the meantime, you can explore national-level overdose data and visualizations through the CDC:
Wyoming-specific reports and tools will be shared here as they become available.
