Wyoming State Hospital Community Meeting Set
October 18, 2017
The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) invites Evanston-area residents to hear an October 31 update on future construction and operations plans for the Wyoming State Hospital (WSH).
The October 31 open meeting will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the WSH Knowledge Development Center in Evanston with parking in Parking Lot A.
“WSH, together with the Wyoming Life Resource Center in Lander, offers critical and unique safety-net services for some of Wyoming’s most vulnerable residents,” said Chris Newman, Behavioral Health Division senior administrator.
“We know WSH is important to Uinta County,” Newman said. “We want this meeting to serve as an opportunity for local residents to learn about the changes we are planning.”
WDH operates both facilities, and is moving toward a new vision of care that includes operating both WSH and the Wyoming Life Resource Center as one facility with two campuses. “Clients and patients will be placed based on need,” Newman said.
Newman noted a major public building and remodeling project has been approved for both locations. “This project will mean major changes for the WSH campus, including leaving a number of unused buildings,” Newman said.
WSH, part of the WDH Behavioral Health Division, is Wyoming’s only state-operated psychiatric hospital and has been providing mental health services in Evanston for state residents since 1887.
