What is a Medicaid Waiver?
In 1981, Congress enacted legislation, Section 1915(c) of the Social Security Act, allowing states greater flexibility in providing services to individuals living in community settings. This statute authorized the federal government to waive certain Medicaid statutory requirements. The waiving of these statutory requirements allows the development of joint federal-state funded programs known as Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waivers. The Home Care Services Unit administers several programs to help individuals remain in their home and community who may otherwise be in a medical institution. The program options we offer are Community Choice Waivers, PACE and Project Out.
