People with questions or concerns about long-term care services in Wyoming can find an advocate through the Wyoming Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program offered through the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). With a focus on resident rights, the program works on behalf of people who live in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and boarding homes, as well as people who receive community-based long-term care services. “Anyone can call us for help. Ombudsman – A Swedish word, meaning legal representative, an ombudsman is a person who investigates and attempts to resolve complaints and problems. The Wyoming Department of Health employs a state long-term care ombudsman and contracts with a private, nonprofit organization to employ three regional long-term care ombudsman representatives. Guidance Updated to Support Outdoor Visitation at Long-term Care Facilities

The Wyoming Department of Health has issued updated guidance to allow long-term care facilities to permit in-person visitation outdoors under specific guidelines. The new guidance requires visits to occur in a designated outdoor space, limits visitors to two persons at a time and requires screening of visitors for symptoms of respiratory illness. A facility staff member trained in patient safety and infection control measures must remain with the resident at all times during the visit. Coronavirus Case Signals Community, Long-Term Care Concerns

The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is saying today that a previously identified Fremont County case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) signals potential local community spread and warrants special attention and prevention measures related to long-term care. Lab testing at the Wyoming Public Health Laboratory identified an older adult male Fremont County resident as the second known Wyoming case on March 13.
