The Core Prevention Initiative was implemented to provide community-level funding to reduce underage drinking and binge drinking, to prevent suicide, and to provide for other community-based prevention efforts that address local substance abuse problems that may be present within the community.  Core Prevention utilizes the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) public health model, which employs the following five-step process: Needs Assessment; Capacity; Strategic Planning; Implementation of evidence-based prevention efforts; and Evaluation, with Sustainability and Cultural Competence at its foundation.
