Streptococcus pyogenes is the causative agent of “strep” throat.  Throat infection with Group A Streptococcus may lead to rheumatic fever and/or acute glomerulonephritis if not treated properly. 

  

TYPE OF TEST

Acceava Strep A Rapid Chromatographic Immunoassay for the detection of Strep A antigen.

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Collect throat swab using a rayon swab.  Reinsert swab into paper sheath.  Label the sleeve with patient name or identifier.

SHIPPING REQUIREMENTS

Ship according to regulations for diagnostic specimens.  Complete and enclose WPHL test request form.

DAYS TEST PERFORMED

Daily, Monday – Friday.

RESULTS AVAILABLE

Upon completion.

REPORTING & INTERPRETATION

Specimens are reported as Positive or Negative.  All Positive results are called to the submitter.  Printed reports are mailed to the submitter upon completion.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

No confirmatory culture is done.
