Wyoming Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) collects data from randomly selected non-institutionalized adults age 18 and older, through monthly telephone surveys. All 50 states currently conduct the survey, with the collaboration and support of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Currently Wyoming conducts about 4,000 surveys a year and the final yearly data are weighted by CDC to account for different probabilities of selection and to be representative of the total adult Wyoming population by gender and age group. Respondents with missing values were excluded from the analysis of that variable unless otherwise noted.

Explanation of Tables:

Selected results are now available from this website in the form of demographic tables. These tables include the prevalence estimates, the 95% confidence intervals, the total sample size for the measure, and the number of respondents who reported it. The 95% confidence interval defines the margin of error for the prevalence estimate and is largely based on sample size. When the sample size is small for a particular demographic group, the corresponding margins of error are large and appropriate care should be taken when interpreting those results. P values are included below the prevalence estimates. A P value of 0.05 or less indicates that a statistically significant difference exists between at least two of the groups within the demographic category. When observing differences between two estimates for a particular indicator, confidence intervals which do not overlap will usually indicate a statistically significant difference exists. Names of the counties included in the different regions and for different population densities can be found by pointing to the particular region (e.g. Southwest) or density group (e.g. Counties >50K). Data that are not available are indicated by "---". Percents and confidence intervals that are not reported due to inadequate sample size are also indicated by "---".
