Reauthorization of SCHIP

Many of you may have heard or read about the “Reauthorization of SCHIP”.  I know that most of the information can be confusing and we have received many calls from parents concerned about whether their children will continue to have coverage through Kid Care CHIP.

Currently the Kid Care CHIP program is being debated in Congress and they have not yet come to a decision on what they want to do with the program across the nation.  There are many states that are running out of money and therefore having to stop enrolling children.

Your Wyoming Kid Care CHIP program is currently not one of those states.  We have enough federal money to continue the program until July 1, 2008.  If the program is not reauthorized by then we will begin a waiting list and/or an enrollment freeze for new enrollees only.  This waiting list and/or enrollment freeze will not affect our currently enrolled families as long as you turn in your renewal forms in time (when your renewal comes up) and your children are found eligible for another year.

If you have any questions about the reauthorization of Kid Care CHIP please feel free to contact me at 1-877-543-7669 or via email at patricia.guzman@health.wyo.gov

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
