Wyoming Women's Reproductive Health Study
This study is funded by the Substance Abuse Division, the Maternal & Child Health Program and the HIV Program. Other collaborative partners include the Wyoming Health Council, Public Health Nursing, the Mental Health Division and the Attorney General's Office on Domestic Violence. Data collection will begin in January 2004 and includes a comprehensive survey of knowledge, attitudes and practices of Wyoming women of reproductive age as well as laboratory testing for illicit drugs, nicotine, gonorrhea, chlamydia and bacterial vaginosis. Participants will be recruited from private practices, family planning clinics and public health nursing clinics. Results are intended to provide valuable information for program planning and for policies to prevent low birth weight.
The National Childhood Asthma Prevention Campaign Pilot
Wyoming was one of three states awarded funding for this project. This is a collaborative effort involving Maternal & Child Health, the Preventive Health and Safety Division, the Tuberculosis Program, the Substance Abuse Division, the Wyoming Department of Education and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. The goals and objectives of this pilot are to:
- Detemine the prevalence of asthma in Wyoming school children ages 5 to 19 through a school nurse survey
- Investigate the link between particulate matter (PM) air pollution and asthma exacerbations in children through a study conducted at four Wyoming schools using air quality data and peak flow readings of asthmatic children; and
- Provide information to parents, school staff and health professionals about asthma, asthma management and PM air pollution through development of an asthma web site.
The Maternal Outcome Monitoring System (MOMS)
MOMS is a state-wide surveillance project based on the methodology for the CDC's PRAMS project. Surveys pertaining to pregnancy and postpartum behaviors and experiences are sent to a random sample of Wyoming women who have given birth. This information will be used for program planning and evaluation.
